YARONA RUSTENBURG EXPANDS SERVICES

In an ongoing effort to improve public transport in Rustenburg, Yarona Rustenburg Integrated Public Transport Network is set to operationalise significant route and timetable changes starting Monday, June 3, 2024. These updates are designed to enhance accessibility and efficiency for passengers across several key areas in the city.

Route 11: Enhanced Service Along Kagiso Street

Route 11 will undergo a new alignment and timetable adjustments to better serve residents along Kagiso Street. Before 13:00, buses will no longer run past Stop T002 but will instead stop at three newly established stops along Kagiso Street. After 13:00, the route will bypass Stop T003, continuing to serve the new stops. These changes aim to provide more convenient access to public transport for residents and improve the overall service frequency. The new timetable reflects these adjustments, with only minor changes to the stop times, typically one or two minutes later than previously scheduled.

Route 13: New Stops and Improved Accessibility

To accommodate growing demand, Route 13 will introduce new stops in Tswaraganang and Lentswe Street. The updated timetable incorporates these stops, ensuring minimal impact on the existing schedule. Passengers can expect slightly adjusted times, enhancing the route’s efficiency without significant delays.

Routes 14, 15, 16, and 17: Expanded Coverage

Routes 14, 15, 16, and 17 will also see notable changes, including the addition of new stops and corresponding timetable adjustments:

Route 14: New stops will be available in Strumosa, Kremetart, and Maanblom. The timetable will be updated to include these stops, with minor changes to existing stop times.

Route 15: A new stop in Maanblom will be added, with slight adjustments to the timetable to reflect this addition.

Route 16: This route will now include new stops in Strumosa, Kremetart, and Sesame. The updated timetable will ensure that stop times are minimally affected.

Route 17: Similar to Route 16, new stops in Strumosa, Kremetart, and Sesame will be incorporated, with the timetable adjusted accordingly.

Commitment to Enhanced Public Transport

The Executive Mayor of Rustenburg Local Municipality, Cllr Shiela Mabale-Huma, expressed her enthusiasm for the expansion, stating, “The operationalisation of these changes demonstrates our commitment to improving public transport for all Rustenburg residents. By enhancing route coverage and adjusting timetables, we aim to make daily commutes more convenient and efficient, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable and accessible city.”

During a recent inspection of the Yarona Rustenburg Interim Depot, Cllr Mabale-Huma, alongside Chairman of the Taxi Negotiating Forum Mr. Serame Sebego and Acting MMC for Directorate: Roads & Transport, Cllr Selebaleng Pule, emphasised the positive impact these changes would have on job creation and urban mobility. The meeting highlighted the impressive growth in ridership, with the system experiencing a dramatic increase from 10 passenger trips daily to 13,000.

Future Prospects

Yarona Rustenburg continues to be a catalyst for urban transport reform in Rustenburg, with these expansions marking just one step in an ongoing journey toward a world-class public transport system. The integration of new stops and the slight adjustments in timetables are set to improve the travel experience for all passengers, ensuring that public transport remains a viable and attractive option for the city’s residents.

Passengers are encouraged to review the new timetables and plan their journeys accordingly, taking advantage of the expanded service coverage and improved accessibility. Yarona Rustenburg remains dedicated to revolutionising public transport in Rustenburg, and these updates are a testament to that ongoing commitment.
